Meeting with Robyn: All About Group Four.

We would like to get out of the project:
  • A project that can be personalised and that is lasting- so that we can say this is what we did and here it is.
  • A project that involves people, this could mean organising people (like exchange) or just has a human element (which in terms of tourism is consulting with people about strategy, rather than building a website).
  • Preferably a new project, in contrast to a project that is a continuation of something else.
  • Want to help people- who???
  • The SALP project and program is about benefiting in three areas- the project itself, the partnership created and as a team.

We can offer this project:
  • Lots of enthusiasm and happiness.
  • Organisational skills.
  • A car.
  • Good/great literary and research skills.
  • Strong commitment.

Hi Everyone,
In preparation for our meeting this week I have sketched out some responses to some of Jack’s questions.
What are your areas of interests?
The great outdoors, meeting new people, education, eating well.
What do you want out of the project?
I would like the project to be rewarding in terms of the achievement of our initial goals. It would be fantastic if we could look back in a year’s time and say “Hey, look what we’ve done!”
Maybe consider with regards to:
E.g.
The type of skills you can offer and perfect – I am happy to write material e.g. website content, flyers, newspaper articles etc.
The type of skills that you would like to develop – I would really like to learn how to facilitate events.
The type of outcomes that you would like to achieve – It would be great if we could help widen other peoples’ experiences and have a positive impact on their lives.
The type of people you would like to engage with – I would like to engage with the financially disadvantaged, young people or students.
The type of causes that you are passionate about – I am passionate about ending homelessness, breaking down cultural and religious stereotypes and promoting education.
What do you really want to get behind? – I think our city-country exchange idea is a good one.
etc. (Just some suggestions, feel free to elaborate, or omit).
In what ways can the current Loddon Shire project change to cater to what you want?
At the moment it looks as though we have cause to diverge from the current project.
What is the SALP project that you envisioned?
Initially I thought our choice of project would be less problematic but I think we will gain a lot from what we are experiencing.
Are there ways that the Loddon Shire projects can progress in a similar spirit?
Maybe Robyn might have some more suggestions of projects that we could get behind because she is more in touch with the region. Having not actually visited the Shire it is hard to make a call on this one.
I’ll see you later Team,
Kathryn

From Vio's side

Hi Team,

This is my response to Jack's questions. Hopefully it will help all of us to decide in a good project that will benefit everyone :)

Types of skills you can offer - drawing/designing (but not involving IT, need to learn more about that), baking easy muffins (if it can be of any use), make flyers (publicity), research, help Kathryn to write website contents, generally assisting other team members (good at following orders)
Type of skills you would like to develop - communication skills with people and organisations, professional writing skills

Type of outcomes you would like to achieve - to make a positive impact in people's lives (same as Kathryn), possibly in the field of poverty/financial difficulties, homelessness, healthy eating and lifestyle, education.

Type of people you would like to engage with - financially disadvantaged, people with difficulties in general, i.e. learning difficulties, mental/physical disabilities, victims of natural disasters, people who are socially discriminated, etc.

Type of causes you are passionate about - ending homelessness, poverty, malnutrition/overnutrition, promote education, bring awareness about multiculturalism and ending racial and social discrimination, helping victims of natural disasters.

What do you really want to get behind - agree with Kathryn, I like the city-country exchange. Or we can pick a few interesting aspects of Loddon Shire, example: Nature - the diversity of rocks in the region- and arrange a camp for the uni geology students, etc.

In what ways can the current Loddon Shire project change to cater what you want - I am much more interested to actively deal with people (like the examples of city-country exchange, or the faculty tours) rather than a website. So probably instead of building a website, we can make a booklet about our own tourism plans or write articles about our outcomes?

Are there any ways that the Loddon Shire projects can progress with a similar spirit? - I believe it could, if the project touches on our areas of interests and passion.

See you on Tuesday :)

Vio

Hi here are some of my (Jack) responses:

What are your areas of interests?
Well, nothing too specific, things that are business-related with an entrepreneurial spirit would be cool.
I wouldn't mind thinking of a slightly bigger picture and go for something could assist in a cause.

What do you want out of the project?
Get to work with a passionate team of students to help ourselves develop by helping others.

The type of skills you can offer and perfectEagerness to learn.
The type of skills that you would like to develop

Communication particularly with professionals.

The type of outcomes that you would like to achieve.

I would dearly love to have a project that would have a tangible outcome, something that would be achieved only through learning new skills and knowledge.

The type of people you would like to engage with Professionals, those who are vastly experienced and knowledgeable in their field of expertise.

Type of causes you are passionate about
Helping the youths or the elderly, I think they are under appreciated. They are both full of potential, with a wealth of knowledge, insight and perspectives that many people seem to miss.

What do you really want to get behind?
Something with support that we can really get a move on.

In what ways can the current Loddon Shire project change to cater to what you want?
I would like to please. As long as the project is serious, productive with support, I would gladly be on it.
I personally would like to think of any partnering organisation as clients, and that our job is not so much as to just follow what they tell us, but be the fresh eyes that they could benefit from.

What is the SALP project that you envisioned?
I hoped that in the best case scenario, something can be done that brings the corporate world to charity. Include what I have stated above.

Comments:Although I would love to learn new things, one of which includes event planning (it would be awesome to have one), however I do not wish that any of the project's central focus be based on planning event(s) or activities.I sincerely hope that we are able to increase frequency of communication with our client/partner/contacts and define our projects, and get a move on for the project. Also judging by our team composition and time demands, it would be good that there'd be some flexibility in terms of the timeline, though I would stress that we should try to stick to one.
